“Higher education is important, but it needs to be accountable,” said DeSantis. “We need to make sure the faculty are held accountable and that they just don’t have tenure forever, without having any type of ways to hold them accountable or evaluate what they’re doing.”

DeSantis says the changes to the tenure system in Florida will prevent professors from what he calls "indoctrinating students" in certain ideologies.

“Tenure was there to protect people, so they could do ideas that maybe would cause them to lose their job or whatever and academic freedom. I don’t know that that’s really the role that it plays, quite frankly, anymore.”

The silence of all these respectable moderates, who were so worried about academic freedom is deafening. All these NYT opinion writers - where are you? [add a Travolta gif here]

P.S. I also would like to remind you that Florida is not the first state to kill the concept of tenure.

Тільки що, сподіваюся, пояснив про топік кріп: порушення/не порушення -- то стороннє зауваження. В рамках цього зауваження я все ще не переконаний, що "not entering into contracts with those who engage in boycotting" означає "ущемляти свободу слова" (точно не те ж саме, що "забороняти") але так чи інакше, зауваження це стороннє. Не стороннє -- де тут приклад системного порушення академічних свобод в масштабах не менших, ніж "поодинокі випадки" інакшого плану, згадувані опініон колонками тих чи інших газет.
