Electoral college is going to save us!
Apr. 1st, 2024 07:48 amWith Trump leading in polls, things look really dark - both for the US and for Ukraine. But do not despair!
All my life I have been told that the US democracy is not fair or representative exactly for this reason: the electors can override the will of the people, if people make a really bad choice. That was the reason why we have discarded the will of the majority all those years. This is why we played by those rules.
Well, realistically, it could not be worse than a self-proclaimed wanna-be dictator, who already tried to overturn the results of a fair election? Right? Right? Electors are going to step in and save us!
You might be thinking - Mykyta, is this a stupid joke? Is it April, 1st? Well, it is.
What's next?
Well, first of all, I want to question myself - has Electoral College outlived itself? If you don't believe it is going to deliver the promised safety net, what's the reason of having it? Should we start thinking of dismantling it and switching to better, more reliable democratic instututions?
The second question is: what can we do right now? The answer is boring and trivial. We can select the close races for the Senate and the House in the swing states and support the D part of the ticket - it is unlikely that a person who votes blue for the House, will vote for Trump.
