SFPD priorities
Sep. 23rd, 2023 08:38 amA few months ago SFPD arrested a bunch of skateboarders, engaged in so-called skate bombing.
I have to give credit where credit is due - after all, it is a traffic violation, and it is a police job to stop it. You may criticize the heavy-handeness of police that might have turned a traffic violation into a small-time riot, with Muni trains vandalized and fireworks thrown around. However, at least, the police tried - more than 60 police officers in riot gear were engaged, more than 100 arrests were made.
So it seems like SFPD has more than sufficient resources - 60 to 80 police officers in riot gear to after minor offenders! That's nothing to sneeze at - that requires money, time and skill to coordinate!
Last week a guy got 24k of video equipment stolen. He tracked the stolen equipment to a concrete address (a block and a half away from a police station), called the police and the police said:
- Well, that's a known fencing operation, bye.
What makes SFPD so eager to persecute a minor annoyance and reluctant to go after real criminals? Obviously, not the lack of resources. What is the real reason? Your guess is as good as mine.
