you are right. a majority of people in US are conservatives. they feel that its "their" health system, and even this system gives (got) them some pain they still protect it from changes (especially from a scary communists, etc) as its still "their" (mine thing is good, right, and proper (even perfect), because its mine, other's things are bad and wrong). on one hand, it is based on fear of change, on other hand- this is a part of phenomena of prodigal son. And, they have nothing to compare. they never tried something different (better).
